This festival is also mentioned in the Ramayana period and Mahabharata periods. It is believed that on this day, worshiping and offering prayers to the Chhathi Maiya by law helps to solve all the problems related to children. In this festival, women observe a Nirjala fast for 36 hours.

It is believed that on this day, the blessings of Chhathi Maiya always remain on her devotees by worshiping Chhathi Maiya and Lord Sun. And the woman who does not have kids will get a child and all the obstacles coming in the life of the child end. This is the only festival in which the Sun God is worshiped and Arghya is given to him. According to the belief, the worship of the Sun God is very important.

Significance of Chhath Puja

In all the 18 Puranas, the glory of Lord Surya is glorified, but in the Surya Purana, there is a mention of Suryapasana in detail. Chhath Puja has been of special importance since ancient times. It was started by Kunti in the Mahabharata period as she was blessed with a son, Karna, by worshiping the Sun. After this, Kunti’s son Karna started worshiping the Sun God, he was an ardent devotee of Lord Surya, standing in the water for hours every day and offering Arghya to the Sun. After getting the blessings of the sun, he later became a great warrior. That is why even today the offering Arghya is prevalent in Chhath Puja.

Chhath Puja begins on Shukla Chaturthi of Kartik month and ends on Saptami. The first day is celebrated as ‘Nahay-Khay’. On the second day, Kharna is done on Kartik Shukla Panchami, the fasting of Kharna throughout the day on Panchami consumes kheer, roti, and fruits made of jaggery in the evening in the form of Prasad. But the fasting people take food and water only after the fast is over, so it is a very big festival in India.
